WellChild and GSK

Across the UK, more than 100,000 children and young people are living with serious illness, or exceptional health needs. Many spend months, even years in hospital simply because there is no support to get them home.

2016 was a landmark year for a partnership that originally set out to make a meaningful impact on the lives of these children, young people and their families.

Since GSK and WellChild came together, 10 WellChild Nurse posts have been established across the UK. WellChild Nurses specialise in getting children and young people out of hospital faster, supporting and empowering families to care for their child safely at home and reducing the need for readmission. Last year, 371 children and young people were supported by GSK funded WellChild Nurses.

Every WellChild Nurse post is established for life, leaving a legacy of care and support for thousands of children and families in desperate need of support today and in the future.

Together, GSK and WellChild have gone on to raise national awareness of the issues faced by thousands of children, young people and families through the growth of the annual WellChild Awards, honouring the inspirational qualities of some of the UK’s most seriously ill children.
