Providence Row

 

In 2010 Providence Row, an East End homelessness charity launched a scheme to provide people affected by homelessness basic catering training. The successful venture saw trainees make and serve breakfasts and lunch for 1000+ rough sleepers and vulnerably housed people using the day centre every year. To help more people, the charity extended the approach by piloting a social enterprise. Providence Row Bakery started to supply local cafes in Brick Lane with wholesale cakes and baked goods. In 2015 the decision was made to build on the bakery’s local success, scale it up and re-launch it for the retail market. After extensive research a new identity was adopted to support the development of the business. ‘Providence Row Bakery’ became ‘Rise Bakery’ with pro bono consultation from expert branding and design agency Unreal UK.
Launched on 4th April 2016, Rise Bakery has a striking, new contemporary look. This has brought with it increased interest, a significant increase in sales and much positive feedback from external audiences. It has also increased confidence internally about the charity’s ability to create and run a successful social enterprise. The trainees love the new branding too wearing their new Rise chefs’ whites with pride!
