Fred Sirieix

DM Thomas Foundation for Young People

Fred Sirieix, General Manager of Michelin-starred restaurant Galvin at Windows, became a popular TV star as the charming Maitre D' in Channel 4's "First Dates." Worried about the prevalence of violence and crime in his local area due to deprivation and lack of opportunities, Fred, along with top chef Chris Galvin, approached us in 2009 to create Galvin’s Chance, an into-work programme for disadvantaged young people who are not in education or employment.

Galvin’s Chance offers young people who have been through the probationary system or face other barriers to employment, opportunities for a career in prestigious hotels and restaurants in London. Since 2009, 80% of Galvin’s Chance candidates have successfully gained employment in hospitality and have gone on to secure long term, successful careers.

Fred's charm and extensive network of well-wishers enables him to champion the programme and thanks to his hard work Galvin’s Chance continues to go from strength to strength. Fred is deeply committed to the programme and to helping Galvin’s Chance candidates to change their lives, and takes an active part in the process of encouraging, listening, mentoring and training. He also actively fundraises and constantly comes up with innovative new ideas to promote the programme.
