FareShare and Tesco

FareShare is a UK-wide charity that tackles food waste and hunger by redistributing good food that might otherwise go to waste, to frontline charities and community groups that support vulnerable people – including homeless shelters, children’s breakfast clubs, older people's lunch clubs and domestic violence refuges. These organisations transform the food into nutritious meals, which they provide alongside life-changing support.

Tesco is a global retailer committed to tackling food waste. It has pledged that no food safe for human consumption will go to waste from its UK retail operations by the end of 2017 and their CEO Dave Lewis chairs Champions 12.3, a coalition of government and business leaders dedicated to reaching the UN Sustainable Development Target of halving global food waste in production and supply by 2030.

Through a long-standing partnership, shared goals and a number of successful initiatives, we have been able to work together with Tesco to tackle food waste and food poverty in the UK. In 2016, with Tesco’s support, FareShare delivered a record-breaking 25 million meals to beneficiaries, expanded our reach to over 1000 towns and cities and enabled the charity sector to make a saving of £22.2 million.
