The Scout Association is the UK’s largest mixed youth movement, helping over 457,000 young people enjoy fun and adventure while developing skills for life.
Across 7,000 groups we bring young people together, provide space for them to have fun, discover their talents and make the most of their childhoods. In challenging economic times and sometimes polarised communities, Scouting has a more powerful role to play than ever.
2016/17 was a truly remarkable year of outstanding impact. Recording our 12th year of consecutive youth membership growth, we:
•Celebrated our highest ever number of adult volunteers (up 40k to 154k)
•Opened 6,000 new places for young people in areas of deprivation
•Reached a milestone of 100,000 girls in Scouting
•Staged a year-long celebration of Cubs100, the 100th birthday of Cub Scouts
•Provided opportunities for 200,000 Scouts take social action in their local communities
Our success this year is the culmination of a four key strategic plan, Scouting for All. By delivering in each four key areas, we have made significant advances in membership growth, inclusivity, community impact and in becoming more youth-shaped.
