Founded in 1995, The Grand Appeal has raised £50 million to save lives and support over 100,000 sick children and babies treated yearly at Bristol Children’s Hospital and its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Working in partnership with Aardman Animations, the charity provides pioneering medical equipment; ensuring Bristol Children’s Hospital and NICU are at the forefront of paediatric care.
It also has an incredibly successful and unique retail operation which has undergone huge transformation since its beginnings as a ten week pop-up shop and online store during the charity’s extraordinarily popular Gromit Unleashed trail in 2013 which saw 1.2 million people flock to Bristol from all over the UK and overseas and £3.8 million raised for its cause.
The retail operation now boasts a multi-million pound turnover four years later, with an ever-expanding fan base and numerous exclusive retail ranges with world-famous brands. Run in-house by a small, dedicated team, this unique ‘charity shop’ is a bold, brave and trailblazing example of a charity retail operation which has broken all the rules, all whilst giving back to the local community and transforming the lives of sick children.
