Stop The Knock

Money Advice Trust

Local authorities in England and Wales instructed bailiffs more than 2.1 million times in 2014/15 – an increase of 16% in two years, despite significant pressure to reduce their reliance on this method of collecting unpaid council tax and other debts. Stop The Knock, the Money Advice Trust’s campaign to tackle this problem last summer, secured commitments from 28 councils to improve their debt collection practices, engaged more than 30 Parliamentarians and attracted more than 600 items of media coverage along the way. The campaign, executed in-house, used innovative data-driven campaigning techniques to achieve a huge reach and significant real-world outcomes on a shoestring budget.
