Sam Greatrex

Macmillan Cancer Support

When Sam was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin Lymphoma at just 10 years old, he and his family found the support of his Macmillan nurse invaluable. Sam was so grateful that he decided to do whatever he could to make sure Macmillan was there for other families. He’s dedicated much of his life to achieving this goal – and he’s done it in the most spectacular way possible.

Sam began fundraising for Macmillan by taking on a gruelling 3,000-mile solo cycling challenge across Australia. And that was just a warm up for his next expedition: travelling from Paris to the Pacific coast of Peru using only human power. The awe-inspiring feat involved cycling across two continents and making a legendary Atlantic crossing in a rowing boat. It’s testament to his tenacity that he crossed the ocean in just 51 days and broke three Guinness World Records along the way.

As well as garnering celebrity support and national press coverage, Sam smashed his £250,000 fundraising target, raising enough to fund a new chemotherapy suite at his local hospital. Sam is an incredible Macmillan ambassador whose super-human efforts and dedication are leaving a lasting legacy for other families affected by cancer.
