Metropolitan Tutoring Young Residents Programme

Tutors United / Metropolitan Housing Association

What happens when the worlds of housing and education collide?

Metropolitan Housing Association was the first of its kind to believe in Tutors United’s innovative approach and was the first Housing Association to partner with them back in 2013 on the flagship Tutoring Young Residents Programme. The goal is to inspire pupils to do well in education and become better citizens within their communities.

Since then, the partnership has provided 2196 hours of free tutoring to 450 young pupils aged 8-11 each week across 11 of their social housing estates in greatest need in London and Cambridge. Creating opportunities for young people in education and employment, the programme has increased the attainment and aspirations of young people within those areas and reduced behavioural and crime issues with young people in those communities.

In this past year alone, the partnership has tutored 208 young residents each week, taken pupils out of the ‘below average’ category and increased their Maths results by 70% and improved writing results by one whole level!
