Heidi Hall was appointed as Director of Central School of Ballet in September 2016 at a time when the organisation required new leadership and renewed focus. Her achievements demonstrate classic senior leadership attributes: she is ambitious for her staff and students; determined in fundraising (with considerable success – Central will realise its long-held goal of moving to new premises in the South Bank during the academic year 2019/2020); she is positive in outlook and encouraging of those in her team. In addition, Heidi is farsighted, attracting a broad and diverse student intake, offering opportunities to young people from a wide socio-economic profile in an industry which is often viewed as elitist. Over a third of Central’s students come from low income families and receive bursary support. This in turn influences the future of the dance industry as Central’s graduates join the top international ballet companies and musical theatre productions. Established in 1982, Central offers professional, degree level training through BA (Hons) and MA programmes for young people aiming for a career in the dance industry. Heidi is an alumnus of Central, graduating in 1995, and enjoyed an extensive performance career before moving into arts management roles.
