Following the tragic loss of his wife Tracy to cancer in March 2016, Colin Shaw raised the staggering total of over £100,000 for Cancer Research UK in just 18 months. Initially Colin embarked on the ambitious and generous mission of raising £50,000 for Cancer Research UK.
During such a difficult time for Colin and his family, his drive and commitment to raise money and help others in the future knew no bounds. Colin set about using his personal and professional contacts to achieve his fundraising target, organising a number of innovative fundraising activities including a twelve day ‘Dryathlon’ alongside 50 friends from around the world. Colin also organised various events including Family Fun days and Gymkhanas and sold Unity Bands in aid of Cancer Research UK’s World Cancer Day campaign, encouraging others to support the charity. Colin quickly surpassed his initial £50,000 goal within the year, and as Tracy’s legacy grew so did Colin’s ambition to raise even more. This resulted in a glittering fundraising ball, where 400 people came together to celebrate Tracy’s life and the work and progress of Cancer Research UK.
Colin’s unwavering commitment to funding vital cancer research is inspirational, and he is truly deserving of the title ‘Volunteer of the Year’.
