Clap For Our Carers is a brand and cause that everyone has come to know during Covid-19. The #ClapForOurCarers campaign united the entire country, as communities locally and nationally came together Thursday evenings at 8pm for the shared experience of communal applause in appreciation of the selflessness, bravery and dedication of frontline NHS and key workers. From doorsteps, balconies and front rooms across the nation, millions of people engaged in the campaign for ten weeks to demonstrate their support and recognition, sharing their experiences across social and uniting community spirit.
The campaign perfectly captured the mood of the nation during challenging times, widely supported by broadcast and print media, and being shared on social channels by all manner of celebrity, political and public figures. The campaign to grow this overnight from an unknown concept to an established part of the nation's popular consciousness and community behaviour, was almost entirely digital. Fuelled largely by social media, and supported by partnerships and activations with the likes of Spotify, Facebook and TikTok, #ClapForOurCarers became part of our lockdown language and communal experience.
