Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM)

The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is dedicated to preventing male suicide, the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK.

From a hard-hitting BBC Lifeline appeal in January 2016, TV documentaries during the year, and partnering with Lynx on #BiggerIssues in November, 2015 was exceptional. Male suicide finally and meaningfully hit the public agenda. #BiggerIssues was the biggest ever male suicide awareness campaign in UK history, increasing awareness by 45%. November also saw CALM secure the first ever parliamentary debate on male suicide.
As well as hitting and surpassing the £1m mark in charitable income, CALM provided record support for men in 2015. The number of helpline calls and webchats answered increased by 55% to over 45K, and use of the help pages on the CALM website more than doubled.
Having made such significant strides among both the public and policy makers, CALM is now building on last year’s success. We are currently supported by and collaborating with the Duke of Cambridge, industries at the frontline of suicide such as RNLI and Network Rail, strong male role models like Professor Green, as well as leading brands including Lynx, Topman, and JCDecaux.
