Over 12 million UK people live with a lung condition. One in five of us face lung disease in our lifetime. It is the UK's third biggest killer, and every 5 minutes, another person will die from lung disease. Together as a single charitable entity, Asthma UK and the British Lung Foundation look after the nation's lungs. Our 170 employees are dedicated to driving forward respiratory research, supporting those who struggle to breathe, and campaigning for clean air and better health services.
A lot has changed in the last year. Until 31st December 2019 we were two separate charities Asthma UK and British Lung Foundation (BLF). We were challenged by serving millions of people with relatively small teams (c100 each) and tight finances (c£8m annual income each). With rising operating costs and a tough fundraising environment, both struggled to maintain the breadth of activities our beneficiaries desperately need.
