Ashaninka Project: Saving Rainforest through Community Protection

Cool Earth

Cool earth is the charity that works alongside indigenous villages to halt rainforest destruction.

We put local people back in control, developing livelihoods and giving them the resources they need to keep their forest intact. This in turn shields millions of acres of neighbouring forest.

Our Ashaninka project in Peru initially aimed to protect 5,000 acres of rainforest by working closely with local partners.

We currently have 137,000 acres protected in this project alone and have replicated the model successfully across the world.

We now have more forest under community protection than any other NGO or government.
