Special Olympics GB is a Volunteer led organisation and without our 4,000 plus Volunteers we wouldn't be able to do what we do today.
We could put forward 4,000 nominations for this award but this nomination is extra special and it was the decision of our Athlete Leadership Team to nominate Anthony Abbott from Special Olympics GB for Volunteer of the Year. Special Olympics GB set up in 1978, is a non-profit organisation which provides year-round sports coaching and athletic competition in summer and winter sports for children and adults with intellectual (learning) disabilities.
Anthony Abbott was a dedicated Volunteer to Special Olympics GB and an exceptional advocate of people with intellectual disability. A true gentleman, Anthony made a huge contribution and on behalf of everyone at Special Olympics GB we are so grateful and thankful for his involvement in our organisation and helping build a more inclusive society.
Anthony sadly passed away in January of this year after a short illness. This award and Third Party recognition would be in his memory and a way for us to all remember the significant difference he made to transforming the lives of so many people living with an intellectual disability.
