Head of Volunteering Development, Save the Children


Rachael is the Head of Volunteering Development at Save the Children, where she leads on developing the volunteering strategy, framework and culture to ensure volunteering is active across the whole organisation. Save the Children have over 13,000 regular UK volunteers, and many thousands of occasional volunteers, all making a huge impact for children.

Rachael is a specialist in volunteering leadership and management and has 13 years’ experience in developing organisations to be fantastic at volunteer involvement. Previously she was the Director of Volunteering at Volunteering Matters (formerly called Community Service Volunteers), the Director of Volunteering Development at the Alzheimer’s Society; and Head of Volunteering Development at Samaritans and before that the Director of Service and Volunteers at Beanstalk.

Rachael is a Director of the Association of Volunteer Managers (volunteermanagers.org.uk), the professional body for all those who manage volunteers; and between 2005-2014 was a Trustee/non-executive director at Barnardo's, a UK wide children’s charity that works directly with 200,000 children.
