The Silver Line and Age Scotland

Age Scotland's helpline had years of experience providing information and advice to older people in Scotland but did not offer friendship. The impact of loneliness on an individual's wellbeing is devastating and Age Scotland wanted to address the problem through its helpline, in addition to existing community activities. A survey of callers revealed that 30% of individuals, or someone they knew, would benefit from telephone befriending (300 people a month). The partnership with the new charity The Silver Line was created so callers in Scotland now receive friendship as well as speciifc information and advice, by calling one simple number.
