Shared Interest Society

Shared Interest Society was launched in 1990 and attracted £750,000 in share capital and 600 members in the first year alone. However the real Shared Interest journey started off as early as 1986 when Traidcraft Exchange found that the main challenge faced by fair trade producers was access to working capital. It was out of this revelation that Shared Interest was created, as a unique solution to the difficulties fair trade businesses found when accessing fair finance.

We are a social lender providing much needed low interest, unsecured loans to businesses in the developing world to cover the purchase of seeds, fertiliser or equipment. We aim to work with businesses for approximately five years through times of hardship such as poor harvests or natural disasters.
