Ruth Hunt is the Chief Executive of Stonewall, the largest organisation for lesbian, gay, bi and trans (LGBT) equality in Europe. Ruth took on the role of Acting Chief Executive in February 2014 and was formally appointed as Chief Executive in July 2014, having worked in various positions in the organisation since 2004. Throughout her 12 years at the charity, Ruth has been involved with campaigning for marriage equality and has overseen the strategic development and delivery of Stonewall’s campaigns, policy and research functions across Britain. In 2015 Ruth made the historic decision to extend the organisation’s remit to campaign for trans equality, and Stonewall is now committed to campaigning to secure equality for all trans people. Ruth has extended Stonewall’s work across all sectors to ensure that all LGBT staff, service users and customers are accepted without exception, and has brought Stonewall even deeper into communities, engaging with groups from different ethnicities, religions and geographies. Stonewall now works with over 25 third sector organisations to help transform attitudes towards LGBT issues throughout the sector. Overall, Ruth’s passion, commitment and action towards ensuring that all LGBT people are accepted without exception makes her a worthy contender for Rising Chief Executive.
