Marie Curie and Yorkshire Building Society

In June 2014, Yorkshire Building Society and Marie Curie launched the Hour of Need fundraising campaign.

Hour of Need was the Society’s most ambitious charity campaign in its 152 year history and enabled Marie Curie Nurses to provide even more vital support for people living with a terminal illness and their families across the UK.

The campaign launched with the aim to raise £500,000 by December 2016, which equated to funding an hour of care by a Marie Curie Nurse for every hour of our fundraising campaign.

Highlights from the partnership include:
- A Guinness World record for the largest cream team party.
- A hugely successful affinity bond raising £334,000
- Launch of a new co-created mentoring scheme

The partnership has been hugely successful, smashing every target. Key results included:
•£1,143,924 raised funding 57,196 nursing hours
•1,027 colleagues volunteered 8,339 hours of their time
•100% of Yorkshire Building Society colleagues engaged in some form of fundraising activity throughout the campaign
•78% of members and 86% of colleagues have a more positive perception of YBS thanks to the campaign
•76% of members and 74% of colleagues have a better understanding of what Marie Curie does
