Ebola

Tony Blair Africa Governance Initiative

AGI’s 2014 breakthrough was not planned. Our staff live and work shoulder to shoulder with counterparts in African governments. When Ebola struck 3 of our partner countries in 2014 we were asked by the governments if we could help them with their response. We realised Ebola was a logistical challenge as well as a health crisis. We had to keep our staff safe and work out how to help. Within weeks our staff were coordinating ambulance despatch, dead body management and contact tracing in Sierra Leone and Liberia. To do this we had to scale up fast, drawing on AGI alumni to double the size of some teams within weeks (whilst other NGOs were withdrawing staff from the same countries.)
