Brave the Shave

Macmillan Cancer Support

Brave the Shave completed its second and extremely successful year raising £4.3 million against an original target of £750,000, with over 20,000 people signing up to take part. Brave the Shave, began as Shave or Style in 2014, the shave ask was clearly proven and the campaign evolved to become Brave the Shave in 2015 as a result of supporter insight and feedback.

Brave the Shave was one of Macmillan’s most successful fundraising products in 2015, with income growing by 640% in year two. The event is based on a simple proposition that draws on people’s connection to both Macmillan and cancer, encouraging them to stand with people affected by cancer and fundraise through sponsorship to ensure Macmillan can be there for even more people now and in the future.

Many people facing cancer experience changes to their appearance and hair loss. Their emotional identity and confidence changes too as cancer becomes part of who they are and impacts on how they feel about themselves and possibly how other people react to them too. By taking part in Brave the Shave, Macmillan is asking people to stand proudly alongside these men and women, to help take control of cancer.
